For three decades, the University of British Columbia has been committed to the concept of interprofessional continuing education in the health sciences – a multidisciplinary approach to learning where several professions come together to exchange ideas about various health issues. In recent years, this concept has evolved to include members of the public, often patients and family members who are facing the challenge of a particular disease. Interprofessional Continuing Education at UBC sponsors conferences for an interdisciplinary group of professionals, policy officials and the public on a variety of topics. We have been offering programs for over thirty years.
UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education is in charge of the organizational side of our conference. With input from conference committee, we take control of budgeting, venue selection, catering arrangement, committee/speaker communication, registration, material printing and assembly, on-site registration and trouble-shooting and other duties as required for efficient and professional event planning.
UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education is fully self-supporting and does not receive any funding from UBC. We have to charge tuition fees in order to cover the costs associated with venues, catering, instructors, printing, media production or other commitments made for programs based on enrollment. In addition, we must recover the operational costs. UBC Interprofessional Continuing Education accepts outside funding in the form of unrestricted educational grants in order to make a numbers of bursaries available. The bursary partly or fully covers registration cost for family members or health professionals who otherwise would not be in a position to attend.
Target audience is specified in the conference brochure for each particular conference and include but is not limited to (listed in alphabetical order):
Administrator/Manager, Alcohol & Drug Counsellor, Behavioral Therapist, Corrections Worker, Counselor, Dentist, Dietician, Early Childhood Educator, Educator, Family Member, Family Support Worker, Indigenous Leader, Infant Development Consultant, Law Enforcement Officer, Mental Health Counsellor, Midwife, Nutritionist, Occupational Therapist, Patient, Parent, Person with FASD, Pharmacist, Physician, Pediatrician, Physiotherapist, Policy Maker, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Registered Nurse, Researcher, Social Worker, Speech Therapist, Student, Supported Childcare Consultant, Teacher and others.
